About me

An interdisciplinary perspective on spatial analysis, from urban planning to cultural heritage.

I graduated from the Department of Urban Planning at National Cheng Kung University, and earned a master’s degree at the Graduate Institute of Architecture and Cultural Heritage at Taipei National University of the Arts. In academic research and professional practice, I apply GIS to complex documentary and data analysis. My master’s thesis examined the spatial evolution of military barracks during the Japanese colonial period and received an Excellence award in the 2024 Taiwan Studies Doctoral and Master’s Thesis Awards.

At Taiwan Geographic Information Center (TGIC), I independently built GIS datasets for more than 300 locations and contributed to a housing statistics project for the National Land Management Agency, Ministry of the Interior. I turn fragmented source material into logically structured, accessible spatial information.

I have recently incorporated AI tools (Gemini, Claude and NotebookLM) to help automate routine document tasks and support further learning. Outside work, I collaborate with AI to develop personal projects that combine GIS with urban planning and cultural heritage and other topics of interest, continuing to develop my practical skills across disciplines.

Education

2020/08 — 2024/02

Master’s degree — Architecture and Cultural Heritage

Taipei National University of the Arts

Master’s thesis: “Spatial Planning of Garrison Units during the Japanese Colonial Period: A Case Study of the Tainan Permanent Barracks.” Used GIS to overlay historical maps from multiple periods, digitize and georeference blueprints, and cross-check spatial data to systematically analyze changes in large-scale spatial layouts from 1895 through the 1940s. Independently led the 390-page research project, integrating archival materials from Japan and Taiwan with multiple map sources, and received an Excellence award in the 2024 Taiwan Studies Doctoral and Master’s Thesis Research Awards.

2016/08 — 2020/06

Bachelor’s degree — Urban Planning

National Cheng Kung University

Studied urban planning, transportation planning, land-use analysis and GIS spatial analysis, developing integrated planning skills for urban spaces and transportation systems. Project courses covered detailed planning, land development and regional revitalization, spanning the planning process from data collection and existing-condition analysis to proposal development.

Awards

2024 Taiwan Studies Doctoral and Master’s Thesis Research Awards — Excellence

The master’s thesis used GIS to georeference historical maps, analyze changes in the spatial layout of the Tainan Permanent Barracks during the Japanese colonial period, and build a spatial database of barracks facilities.
